In short

  • About 28 of every 100 teachers had a master’s degree in 2024-25. Across Texas it was about 25.1
  • Very few teachers had no degree: about 1 in 200, compared with about 1 in 40 across Texas.1
  • About 75 of every 100 teachers were white, and about 44 of every 100 students were. Across Texas, the figures were about 52 and 24.12

How it works

  • The state reports who teaches in each district every year. This is in the Texas Academic Performance Report.1
  • Teachers are counted as full-time equals. Two half-time teachers count as one. Leander ISD had about 3,119 in 2024-25.1
  • Teacher years on the job are on another page. See teacher experience.

  • In Leander ISD, the shares of teachers and students differ. White teachers make up a larger share than white students. Hispanic and Asian teachers make up smaller shares than Hispanic and Asian students.12
  • The same pattern shows up across Texas. Statewide, white teachers are also a larger share than white students, and Hispanic teachers a smaller share than Hispanic students.12
  • The report does not say why the shares differ. It does not cover who applies, who is hired or who stays.1

The other side

  • The report does not measure teaching quality. Degree and background figures do not show how well anyone teaches or how students do.1
  • Teacher and student groups are counted in different ways. Teachers are counted as full-time equals; students are counted by head.12
  • One year is a snapshot. These shares can change as teachers are hired and leave, and as enrollment changes. This page does not show a trend.1

Changes to this page

  • Nov. 2, 2026: We put the teacher and student figures side by side for both Leander ISD and Texas, and reworded the comparison so it does not suggest a cause.

Questions to ask

  • How does the district recruit teachers, and from where?
  • Does the district pay more for a master’s degree?

What we still don’t know

  • How these shares have changed over time. This page shows one year.
  • How Leander ISD compares with nearby districts on these figures.
