In short
- Leander ISD had about 3,119 teachers in 2024-25, about 200 more than in 2020-21 (our math).123
- The teaching staff got more mixed. The share who are Hispanic rose from about 12 to 16 of every 100. The share who are white fell from about 82 to 75.12
- Among eight nearby districts, only Liberty Hill had a lower share of Hispanic teachers. About the same share of teachers had a master’s degree as in Round Rock, Pflugerville and Austin.24
Numbers marked “our math” are our estimates, not official figures. The notes show the inputs and the steps.
How it works
- The state reports who teaches in each district every year, in the Texas Academic Performance Report.2
- Counts are “full-time equivalents.” Two half-time teachers count as one. That is why counts have decimals.2
- Shares are of all teachers in the district. They do not show which schools or subjects.

The other side
- These districts differ in size and in the communities they serve, so their teacher mix may differ for reasons outside the district’s control. The report does not say how many people of each group applied to teach in Leander.
- A changing mix is not proof of a hiring policy. The report does not say why the mix changed.
- A master’s degree does not by itself make a better teacher. The report counts degrees, not results in class.
- “No degree” is a reporting label. The state counts each teacher by the highest degree they hold, using state staffing data. The report does not say which classes these teachers teach, or why Pflugerville has more of them.5
- Pflugerville’s share grew quickly. In 2019-20 about 1 in 40 of its teachers had no degree.6

Questions to ask
- How does the district recruit teachers, and how does it track results?
What we still don’t know
- How the mix differs by school and by subject.
- How the mix of new hires compares with the mix of teachers who left.

Our math. 3,118.7 − 2,918.4 = 200.3 more teachers. White 2,349.9 − 2,381.4 = −31.5. Asian 106.5 ÷ 45.5 = 2.34 times. Hispanic 492.9 ÷ 356.9 = 1.38 times. ↩ ↩2 ↩3
