In short

  • 65 of every 100 test results met grade level in 2025. The state rate was 50.1
  • That was about the same as 2024, when it was 64.1
  • Results from students in low-income families met grade level at 39 of every 100. That is far below the district rate.1

How it works

  • STAAR is the state test. Students take it in grades 3 to 8 and in some high school courses.1
  • “Meets grade level” means the student is ready for the next grade. A lower level, “approaches,” means the student passed but may need help.1
  • The rates count test results, not students. One student can take more than one test.1

The other side

  • Leander ISD has fewer students from low-income families than the state. In Leander ISD, those students met grade level at a lower rate. So part of the gap with the state may reflect who the students are. See who the students are.1
  • A test score is one snapshot. It does not show art, sports, job skills or how students feel at school.
  • Test changes can move scores. The state changed the tests in 2023. So older scores are not a fair match.1

Questions to ask

  • Where does the district post state test results by school?
  • What other measures does the district report besides state tests?
