Layer 1: What this table is
A bond series is one loan. The district has taken out at least 41 since 2003.4 Many were later refinanced. That means paid off with a new loan.
Think of a family with many car loans. Some were paid off by taking a new loan. This page shows what is still owed in all.

What you can do or watch next
- Watch for new loans after each bond sale. See all school loans table.
What we still don’t know
- The state has not yet published 2025-26 debt totals, so the table ends at June 30, 2025 for some figures.
Layer 3: Every loan
See the full table of at least 41 loans. It lists each loan’s date, amount and interest rates.
- 25 of the 41 have a growing-loan part.
- The rate for one loan (2014B, paid off in 2017) is still missing.
Which loan costs the most per dollar
The state lists 20 Leander loan series for 2025. 19 still had money owed. (Loans already paid off are not on that list.)8 The one with the highest total payments per dollar of principal still owed is 2016A. It will cost about $3.22 in total payments for every $1 of principal, through 2049.8 The next highest are 2023A ($2.74), 2015A ($2.46) and 2016 ($2.34).8
2016A includes growing loans (capital appreciation bonds). We think that is why it costs so much per dollar. That link is our inference. The state data does not say it.
Counterweight: a long loan always costs more in total than a short one. A high ratio alone does not mean a bad deal.
The district’s side
The district says refinancing has lowered its costs. It also notes that its debt tax rate fell from 47.19¢ to 33¢ over ten years. See Refinancing and Tax rates over ten years.

Our math, not an official figure. Steps: $1,538,739,161 principal owed minus $51,374,253 due in 2025-26 = $1,487,364,908; $1,480,249,758 interest scheduled minus $101,215,314 due in 2025-26 = $1,379,034,444. All four inputs are from the same page-46 schedule. The 2026A loan is left out because we have no saved payment schedule for it. ↩
